Simon’s Human Needs Theory

There are quite a few Human Needs theories around, but none that covers every human need thinkable while remaining as simple and straight forward is this one. Simon Hertnon’s theory is part of Clear, Concise, Compelling (buy it from Nakedize here) and can also be seen online in Dutch, German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Swedish.

In 1987 Kees Endenburg (then of NRC Handelsblad, a quality newspaper in The Netherlands) invited me to design and illustrate infographics for the daily - a first for the country. Admiring the infographics of Nigel Holmes (at Time at the time) it is clear where inspiration came from. This infographic above is about the production of semiconductors (we call them chips now) in various regions. As the concept of chips was relatively new the idea was to illustrate the amount of information one could put on a tiny chip. Good times!
